Wooden Fish Tank Stands Are The Most Practical

Tag:

Once you have purchased your aquarium you will have to work out if you want to put it on one of the many fish tank stands that are available on the market, or if you want to set it up somewhere else. Personally, I always tend to choose something that is made for the job and would choose a stand that has been designed for the purpose of supporting my fish tank. Most of the stands currently available are made from wood. However, some are made from metal and it will be down to your own personal choice as to which one you buy.

If you decide to have a wooden stand, the best place to look will be in your local aquatic store. Be sure to have a good look round and see what designs they have on offer. Sometimes the most sensible option is to buy your tank and stand together, this way you can make sure that they fit one another, they are matching in color and you are guaranteed that the stand is strong enough to hold your tank. Another place to look is on the Internet as there is no pressure to buy and you can take your time before making your mind up. If you decide to purchase from a fish store or pet store, it is worth taking the effort to get to know the owner little as you are likely to use them again and again for different things, like gravel and water treatments.

When you purchase a wooden stand you must ensure that it will take the weight of the fish tank that you intend to put on it, obviously if the stand comes with the tank then it should be ideal. If you put your tank onto a wooden cabinet or table that is already at home, then you will need to double check if it can take the weight of your new setup. If it cannot, you will need to re-inforce it by putting in some extra slats and supports, mainly in the middle and from top-to-bottom.

Wooden stands can make the perfect display tool for your tank, it is usually best if the stand matches the color of the hood of your tank, although this is not necessarily the case. You can get wooden stands in many different colors, from pine to oak, beech and mahogany or black to silver, meaning that you will be able to make your tank match your existing furniture. Most standard cabinets for fish tanks will be one or two door, depending on the size of the stand. Usually they will have a shelf, either in between the doors or to one side of the door. Three to four foot tanks normally have a single door and tanks of five foot and upwards tend to have two doors. If you shop around though, you can sometimes find four-foot tanks with two door stands.

Some stands are now offering pre-cut holes in them for you to run either your external filter or your lighting and heater cables through. This means that you no longer have trailing wires making your display look unsightly and even most amateur setup can look like it was done by a professional.

Wooden fish tank stands are very easy to look after as you can simply polish them with a duster to keep them clean. They can be any colour so they fit into any room's decor and they are extremely sturdy so all-in-all they are probably the best choice on the market.
